Liverpool is a football city, full of football-mad people - and quite a few of them went on to become professional players. The city has produced a long line of homegrown talent, with a remarkable number of Liverpool-born players who have played for both clubs, as well as other clubs. But of course we’re focusing primarily on Liverpool.
Lots of scousers never played for either Merseyside club but had notable careers elsewhere, such as Dennis Mortimer, Alvin Martin, Kevin Nolan, Mike Newell, John Gidman, Micky Quinn and many others.
Since the Shankly era, where we’ll start - as most things with the modern Liverpool FC tend to - no fewer than 15 have been full internationals. Many more have been fringe first teamers who made first team appearances.
