It’s the start of season 1962/3. For the first time since 1953/4, Liverpool are back in the top flight. They kick off with a home match against Blackpool. And lose it 2-1. The first point comes at Manchester City’s Maine Road in a 2-2 draw. Then another defeat, this time at Blackburn Rovers. One point from the first three games is not the return Liverpool and Shankly would have wanted, though the next Anfield game saw a victory, with the return against Manchester City, curiously just a week after the away game, with a 4-1 win.
