The Perils of Scouting in Scotland Under Ron Yeats
How my match-going mate became a Liverpool scout, and unexpectedly toured Scotland.
The name Paul Molesworth may mean nothing to you, but it does to me. ‘Moley’ was one of the group of fans I first started going to the match with, in the early ‘70s. We first met on the train up to Lime Street from the Midlands - Brummie Moley would get on at Birmingham New Street, another group including me would join the train at Stafford. Then we started travelling around the country by car - usually mine. For years I did a job I hated because it came with a company car. The lads wouldn’t let me leave!
“But I hate it, it’s making me miserable.”
“Ah you’ll just have to put up with it you selfish git, think of the match!” (that wasn’t Moley!)
Many years later it was Moley who got me my ticket for Hillsborough and various other cup semi-finals and finals, and the occasional European jaunt.
